Exclusive: Dual-Boot iOS 8 on Your Android Phone (4.0+)

Dual-Boot iOS 8 on Your Android Phone (4.0+)

Thanks to the strenuous efforts of our Gadget Hacks development team here at WonderHowTo, the fortified barrier segregating Android from iOS has finally fallen down.

Since both Android and iPhone CPUs use the same ARM instruction set, we were able to utilize a mobile-webkit buffer overflow to get iOS to boot on an Android device—and we're giving it out to anyone who wants it.

Watch the video above (and open AndroidHacks.com on your Android phone's web browser) to see how to get iOS 8 running on your Android phone, or scroll down for the written guide. The process is literally one tap, so anyone can do it—no root required.

Editor's Note

Thanks for having some fun with us this April Fool's Day! We hope you all enjoyed this as much as we had coming up with it. If and when something like this becomes a reality, we'll have your step-by-step guide ready at AndroidHacks.com.

Minimum Requirements

Just in case you're wondering, this process does not require root access and none of your existing data will be touched. Just be sure that your device meets the following requirements to dual-boot iOS 8 on Android.

  • Android 4.0 or higher (yes, even Lollipop)
  • 1 GB of free storage space

Installation Steps

With the requirements met and your device ready, follow the short list of steps below to get iOS 8 up and running.

  1. Browse to AndroidHacks.com from your Android phone.
  2. Tap the giant "Dual-Boot iOS" button at the bottom.
  3. Wait for the system to install.
  4. Use your new iOS 8 system on Android!

Note that this process is completely reversible. Since it's a dual-boot system, you can easily revert back in your power options. Also, if your Android device doesn't have a physical home button, you can return to the home page in iOS by tapping on the status bar.

As expected, some apps from the iOS App Store you install may force-close, but most system apps should work well enough to showcase the operating system to friends. Let us know what apps worked for you in the comments below.

Finally! just got it installed and I'm playing with Periscope now. It's a bit choppy, but I think that's just my internet connection. Thanks!

I've always wondered how the other half lived, and now I know!

hhhhh :D

Works Great iMovie here I come

Wow! Easy to install AND works well! What a cool way to see how the other half of the phone universe works. I can't wait to try out all those apps and games that are only available in ios :-)

How to get back to Android once I am booted to ios?

Just hit the power button and you'll see an option in the menu.

Does it delete your texts and pictures?

It's a dual-boot system, so no, it doesn't delete anything. In fact, you'll be able to view the same texts/pics in both systems.

Does it work with CyanogenMod? I'm running on a oneplus one and was wondering if it would work on here too

It works on any operating system.

Doing it right now. How close is it to completely functional?

how to get back my android OS ...please..

Not a fan of iOS but just curious enough to see what it's like. However, I need to be sure if there's a way to COMPLETELY DELETE the iOS out of my Android device to get the space back. So far, I haven't seen an answer about it. Let me know when the feature ready.

Thanks

Did you read the editor's note below the video?

OK, got it back to my original Android. Fun to have iOS8 for a second ;)

Thanks for replying quickly. I'm not seeing the instruction for uninstalling/deleting the iOS, that's why I want to ask first. But I'm doing it now. If I can't delete it, it's your fault, Eliek Horton ... LOL

does it works on opera???

Since you say that the reason IOS will run on Android and Android will run on IOS is because both run off of ARM cores, and the Raspberry pi runs on ARM, according to another article, would it be possible to run IOS or Android on a raspberry pi? You know, it's too late, and I'm trying it for myself. Have a nice day!

Bad editors -- no biscuit!...;-)

I'll share my thoughts. That do bullshit is fucked up. If you just knew how long I have been trying to find an actual working iOS on Android, you'd be ashamed of your goddamn self.
